Those who know me best describe me as a bit of a restless spirit; I’m a traveler by nature, always seeming to have one foot in my next adventure. > Halfway through my college career, I decided to take a semester to visit South America. I didn’t realize the shift in perspective that I would have until I was standing in the middle of a poverty stricken city in Bolivia. As my travels continued, my eyes were opened to the true reality that so many people in developing countries live in. Upon my return, I completed my degree and became a Management Consultant with Accenture. Since my first trip to South America and through my travels to 19 other countries, I promised myself to always be thankful for my blessings, to always take opportunities to visit other countries and to be mindful of chances to promote positive change. I have a passion for bringing wonderful people together for a great cause.

Despite growing up in a small town, or possibly because of it, I have always had a desire to learn about and experience the world. After witnessing poverty first-hand and seeing the faces of those affected by lack of opportunity and resources, I decided to use the opportunities and experiences I have had to impact others. While being in the international development and nonprofit fields for several years, I have had the opportunity to research, evaluate and develop humanitarian projects in many areas of the world in a variety of sectors. Whether locally or internationally, I am in awe of the incredible people that I have worked with who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of their families and communities. Seeing the lives of others changed, seeing hope and power in their faces, is what moves and inspires me each day.

I had the incredible opportunity to teach at a Montessori School for five years of my life. I went to work every day and experienced a loving, caring educational environment where children could thrive and develop their passion for learning. This observation also reinforced the reality that for every one child in my class, there were hundreds who would never experience these favorable circumstances. The desire to help children all over the world achieve a lifetime of opportunity led me to my passion for international development and conflict resolution. I spent the past two years pursuing this at the University of Denver and was then fortunate enough to find Hope Connects so I can actualize my life’s mission while putting my education and skills to the test. As I become more involved in fulfilling our purpose and expanding our impact, I am increasingly excited about where this work will lead me and how my life will change.

I’ve always been someone with an innate interest in other people, whether down the street or across the globe. My interest in other cultures and the workings of the world led me to my academic focus: International Studies. It definitely put the world into perspective and I’m always amazed at how, regardless of the differences in challenges each of us faces, the human experience is in its essence universal. I think this human understanding is what motivates us to make the world a better place, but I think it’s equally as important to understand that the biggest successes typically come from a grounded approach to solving a problem. I joined Hope Connects because it combines the humanitarian aspects of development with the practical solutions to make our partners’ projects feasible; I believe that working hard, smart and together is the best way change lives for the better.
